Less immersive than inpatient hospitalization, more immersive than intensive outpatient programs.
Our teen PHP is designed to meet the unique needs of teens 11-17 with acute mental health issues that prevent them from meeting basic daily expectations and responsibilities at school, with family, with friends, at work, and in the community. We help teens and families address disruptive behaviors, improve relationship dynamics, develop healthy communication skills, and achieve the stability required to rediscover harmony and balance in the home.
When the acute symptoms of a mental health disorder keep a teenager from engaging in the essential activities of everyday life, they need structure and support beyond typical outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment. They need the time, space, and support to address their symptoms and move toward stabilization. A full day of treatment in our PHP program allows them to do exactly that. Under the guidance of our clinicians, our teens envision what treatment success looks like to them.
We help teens define what they want and where they want to go. When a teenager has ownership over the therapeutic process and can set their own goals, they’re more likely to achieve them.
Our PHP program also offers dual-diagnosis treatment for teens with a primary mental health disorder and a co-occurring substance use disorder (SUD). When a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder combine to disrupt typical adolescent development, teens need help growing and maturing in a manner that’s honest, authentic, and productive. We help them navigate the challenges of a primary mental health disorder and/or a secondary co-occurring substance use disorder in an environment that balances serious therapy with joy, happiness, and hope for the future.

The BACA Difference: Structured Step-Down Ensures Continuity of Care
We offer an organized, gradual stepdown service that’s unlike most teen PHPs. This carefully deigned process helps teens transition from immersive therapy through appropriate levels of care and back to the routine of daily life. We understand the importance of consistent and uninterrupted support and care in creating sustained healing and growth.
Our stepdown services ensure our patients don’t fall through the cracks when moving from one level of care to another. To bridge the gap, we focus on stability and wellbeing as our teens transition from PHP to our less immersive levels of care.
PHP is our most immersive program, and IOP is one step down from PHP. When stepping down through levels of care a BACA, a teen may move from PHP to IOP before moving to our less immersive – but equally therapeutic – transitional care services.
Transitional care services typically include individual sessions with our team of BACA psychiatrists and/or therapists who serve BACA alumni exclusively. As our teens step down, we monitor their progress and quickly intervene if problems arise. We treat them at this level of care until we’re confident in their ability to transition to outside community providers. The length of care in Transitional Outpatient services is based on individual needs, but typically lasts 60-120 days.
