Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Outpatient Care: Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Psychiatric care for patients who need ongoing support, but not immersive treatment.

Outpatient treatment for children and adolescents at BACA is designed for patients age 5-17 who need consistent consultations with a therapist or psychiatrist to address mental health disorders or challenges, but whose symptoms are not severe enough to require the around-the-clock care of hospitalization or the frequency of an intensive outpatient program (IOP).

Compassionate Care for Mental Health and Behavioral Disorders

A mental health disorder that meets clinical criteria for diagnosis rarely resolves without professional support. However, not every patient needs intensive care. Sometimes the symptoms of a mental health disorder are severe enough to make life difficult and uncomfortable, but not so severe they impair the ability to function at home, school, work, or in relationships with friends, family, or peers.

That’s what outpatient treatment is for: people with symptoms that create challenges they need help overcoming, but don’t entirely disrupt or derail their lives.

Treatment for Children and Adolescents at BACA: What Sets Us Apart?

Our clinical team is fully committed to supporting kids and teens. Every child and adolescent at BACA receives expert care from a clinician trained to customize treatment to match their stage of development, their age-appropriate needs, and any other special circumstances.

Benefits of specialty training in child and adolescent psychiatry:

Positive Treatment Alliance

Clinicians with specialty training understand how to communicate with respect and empathy necessary that promotes feelings of safety and establishes trust essential to helping young patients.

Appropriate Therapeutic Modalities

Specialists are trained to adapt standard therapeutic approaches to account for differences and/or delays in:
  • Cognitive development
  • Emotional development
  • Motor development
  • Moral/ethical development
Adaptive techniques may include:
  • Play therapy
  • Expressive therapies

Family Involvement

Specialists receive training in family systems theory, family therapy, and family counseling, which allows for the seamless, effective integration of family dynamics, healthy communication styles, boundary setting, and conflict resolution into the treatment process.

Our Mission is to Provide the Highest Quality Mental Health Treatment to Children, Adolescents, and their Families

We meet children, teens and families where they are, learn where they want to go – meaning what they want out of treatment – and design a treatment plan that helps them achieve their goals. We take the time to get to know each patient and family. We adjust and adapt treatment to match their personality and progress. One size does not fit all, and we take the time to make sure that what we offer at BACA is what your family needs.

If you don’t know what you need our doctors can perform a full assessment and help you figure out the right path to take.

If we’re not the right match, we’ll tell you – and connect you either directly to a program that can help or to the resources you need to find an appropriate program.

Diverse Clinical Team, Patient-Centered, Evidence-Based Treatment

Our psychiatrists are firmly grounded in the latest cutting-edge science and research in child and adolescent mental health. But they’re not automatons: they’re innovative and intuitive. At BACA, we don’t paint by numbers or simply check items off a treatment “to-do” list. We understand that all the book learning and school knowledge doesn’t mean much if you can’t relate to a patient on a human level.

The way we relate to our patients is through empathy and compassion. Every member of our team goes above and beyond what’s typical, with full commitment to our mission: to provide the best possible mental health treatment to members of the communities we serve.
