Hi there, my name is Wonbin, and I am an IOP Program Manager for the San Jose office. I was born and raised in Gwangju, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States when I was 20 years old. Since then, I have moved around the country for my education, which has allowed me to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and walks of life. I obtained my Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where I began nurturing my passion for working with all types of relationships and family structures, as well as LGBTQ+ youth and adults.
As a therapist, my ultimate calling in this profession is to increase access to mental health care for marginalized communities by boosting professional representation and training clinicians to honor people’s stories while empowering them to live their preferred lives. It is an honor to be part of the healing journey of youth and their families, where their stories can be witnessed, and they can learn and grow from the therapeutic process. I utilize a family systems approach to therapy, where I view the entire family dynamic and the broader systems in which children and their families are a part. I enjoy helping clients understand the relational patterns in their family systems and access their strengths to interrupt those patterns, enabling them to create healthier relationships.
After living in Dallas, Texas, Spokane, Washington, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, I now live in San Jose, CA with my spouse. We occasionally go kayaking and hiking, and we often visit coffee shops throughout the Bay Area.
