About Dr. Tracie Rivera:
Dr. Tracie Rivera is a board-certified psychiatrist with more than 17 years of psychiatric training and clinical experience. She earned her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency at West Virginia University School of Medicine, where she also served as Chief Resident. She later pursued additional fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Her clinical work has included caring for children, adolescents, and adults across a broad range of psychiatric settings. Dr. Rivera approaches treatment with an emphasis on careful diagnostic assessment, evidence-based psychopharmacology, collaboration with patients and families, and understanding the individual beyond the diagnosis. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University.
In addition to clinical practice and teaching, Dr. Rivera is an author and researcher whose interests include neuroscience, artificial empathy and human–AI relationships, and how physical environments influence emotional and psychological experience. Her work in neuroaesthetics applies neuroscience-informed design principles to create therapeutic and wellness environments in homes, offices, hospitals, clinics, and private practices. Outside of medicine, Dr. Rivera is an award-winning poet and author. She brings the same interest in language, creativity, human behavior, and emotional experience to her work as a psychiatrist, educator, and designer.
